Ovenbirds are named for the elaborate clay nests built by one genus, Furnarius, the horneros, although many species have more conventional nesting habits. They are small- to medium-sized insectivores, restricted to Central and South America. Despite its name, the Ovenbird (Seiurus aurocapilla) of North America, which has occurred in the Western Palearctic as a vagrant, is an American wood warbler (Parulidae) and is not a member of this family.
